Anthony Martin

A librarian from Kirkby who appeared on Mastermind in 1978, coming second in his heat with 'The Reign of the Emperor Augustus' and subsequently losing the repechage semi-final with 'Greek Mythology'. He was inspired to apply for Mastermind after seeing one of his readers Peter Richardson reach the semi-final the previous year, and he was rewarded with an invitation to join Peter's team in the Merseyside Quiz League. Anthony went on to appear in Fifteen-to-One - he was champion three times, and in one final he defeated his own father Leslie Martin, a veteran of such shows as Criss Cross Quiz and Brain of Britain.
