Graham Roe

A systems development librarian from Sheffield who appeared on Mastermind in 1994. He on his heat with 'The Life and Works of Arnold Schoenberg', and in his semi-final a handsome win of 36 with 'The Life and Works of Samuel Beckett' ensured him of a place in the final. For this he chose 'American Classical Music 1910-70' on which he scored 19 - George Davidson was on 21 so it seemed that Graham would have a good chance of catching him. It was not to be - Graham raised his score to 34 but George surpassed that with 37. Graham would presumably not wish to be reminded of a costly error - he failed to identify the location of Peveril Castle, which is quite near Sheffield. Such 'memory blanks' were not uncommon when contestants were under extreme pressure.
