(Dr) Kate Vernon-Parry

An anaesthetist from near Worksop in Nottinghamshire who appeared on Mastermind in 1984, winning her heat with 'The Swallows and Amazons Books of Arthur Ransome' and her semi-final with 'The Life and Works of Beatrix Potter'. For the final she took 'The Life and Works of Arthur Ransome' but she had only just answered her first question when the scoring machine jammed, and there was a wait of twenty minutes before it could be repaired. Whether this put her off her stride or not, she scored 15 on this subject to lie in third place at the halfway stage, and she ultimately lost to Margaret Harris. Kate was one of nine Masterminders to win the top prize of 6,400 pounds on The 64,000 Dollar Question.
