Paul Webbewood

A civil servant from London who appeared on Mastermind in 1990. He had already distinguished himself on Fifteen-to-One, having reached the last three in the series 2 grand final, and as expected did well in his Mastermind heat. Taking 'The History of the British Labour Party from 1900' as his subject, he notched up 37 points, the highest score in the series so far. He ran into problems with his semi-final subject 'The Life and Career of Oliver Cromwell', but his excellent general knowledge saved him, and he was through to the final.

Paul reverted to his initial subject for the final - scoring 20 on this, he seemed to be on course for victory. However, his winning streak was finally over - his final score was 33, and he had to be satisfied with third place.

Paul occasionally plays in the Quiz League of London, and he was a member of Kevin Ashman's team 'The Allsorts' which won The Great British Quiz in 1994.
