A schoolmaster who appeared on Mastermind in 1986, having played in the Merseyside Quiz League. He won his heat (appropriately) with 'The History of Liverpool 1600-1900' and his semi-final with 'The Life and Work of James Brindley'. For the final he chose a new subject 'The Life and Poetry of John Donne' and was pipped by Jennifer Keaveney. Jennifer and Philip took part in the Masterbrain quiz against Mastermind and Brain of Britain runners-up, and they came first and second respectively.
