A schoolteacher who appeared on Mastermind in 1985 and reached the final (via the repechage semi-final for the highest-scoring losers). His subjects were 'The Spy Novels of John Le Carre', 'The Life and Works of Edward Elgar' and 'The Works of John Le Carre'.
Roger returned to Mastermind in 1998 to take part in the radio programme. He came second in his heat with 'British Birds', but this won him a place in the semi-finals as the rules now permitted the top two scorers in each heat to go through. He won the semi-final with 'The Swallows and Amazons Novels', becoming the only person so far to have appeared in two Mastermind finals. For his subject in the 1998 final he chose 'England v. Australia Test Cricket since 1945' and finished in fourth place.
