Anne Ashurst

Anne, a mother-of-two and romantic novelist (Mills and Boon author) from from Williton, near Taunton won the 25th and final televised series of Mastermind in 1997.
In the 1997 Masterbrain contest, Anne was defeated by fellow west-country quizzer Daphne Fowler, the winner of the Brain of Britain contest.
Anne is a key member of the Williton's Forester's Arms quiz team, champions of the Minehead league.
In 1997, Anne competed on a University Challenge special with a team of former Mastermind finalists, against a team of Students from Magdalen College, Oxford, the winners of the show hosted by Jeremy Paxman. On this occasion, the students won.
Both south-western quizzers Daphne Fowler left school with seven O-levels. Anne said her teachers thought she was so bad at maths they made her give the subject up at 13. She had to learn later in life how to measure a room for wallpaper and fill in a tax return.
