Olav Bjortomt

Olav has appeared on a large number of quiz shows, a number that is all the more remarkable considering his age. One of the finest quiz players in the UK regardless of years, he has appeared on Brain of Britain, University Challenge (for the University of Nottingham), Number One, One to Win and the show that got him interested in quizzing - Fifteen to One, where in 1996 he was one of the youngest contestants ever at 17. Going on to re-appear on the show in 2002, he made the grand final and finished second to Matti Watton after reaching the last three with all his lives intact.
A regular on the UK quiz circuit that is slowly gathering pace, Olav has competed in all three British Quiz Championships, together with the Mind Sports Olympiad quiz in 2001 where he finished second to Daphne Fowler. After the first British Quiz Championship where ranking points were awarded in 2001, Olav emerged with a ranking of 9th, and improved his position to 6th after the Liverpool Grand Prix 2002 where he narrowly missed making the final 4.
Guardian Student Feature Writer of the Year and one of the two winners of the overall Guardian Student Journalist of the year prize in 2001, Olav has written several articles on quizzing, and appeared on Channel 4's The Big Breakfast to talk about it.
